The first Tibetan-language newspaper ever produced was started by the German Moravians (the Herrnhuter) at their mission station in Ladakh. The missionaries had been printing leaflets for decades there. August Hermann Francke initiated the newspaper project in 1904. Together with local helpers, every month he edited four pages.
